# Godot MCP Studio FAQ Source: https://www.godotmcpstudio.com/faq ## Privacy & safety What leaves your machine, and what the AI is allowed to touch. ### Do I need an internet connection to use it? Godot project tools and local Image Studio editing run on your computer. Activation, license checks, updates, template downloads, and image generation need an internet connection. Your AI client may also need to connect to its own service. ### Is my project code sent anywhere? Godot MCP Studio edits your project through a local server. Image generation sends the selected artwork, masks, and prompt, not your Godot project. Your AI client may send the project context it reads to its own service; check that client's privacy settings. ### Is it safe to let AI edit my project? You choose a permission mode (Safe Edit or Full Control) and the server enforces it on every action. Safe Edit, the default, creates and edits freely and asks you, in your MCP client, before a delete, a run, or any code execution. Full Control does all of it without asking. You switch modes in the desktop app and the change applies on the next tool call, with no restart or config change. ## Image Studio Local artwork, AI generation, and credits. ### Can I use Image Studio without AI generation? Yes. Drawing, image import, selections, layers, sprite-sheet slicing, timeline editing, and export work locally in Pro without generation credits. AI image generation, AI animation, and some processing actions use credits and show their cost in the app. ### What are image credits used for? Credits pay for image generation, AI animation, and paid image actions. The cost depends on the operation, size, and quality, and is shown before the request starts. Pro includes 80 starter generation credits. Drawing and local editing do not use credits. ### Where can I add more image credits? Signed-in Pro owners can see their balance, recent activity, credit history, and available packs on the Account page. Packs appear only when Image Studio generation is available. ### Can my AI assistant spend credits automatically? Generation proposals wait for your approval by default. You can enable MCP auto-approval for selected operations with per-request and session credit limits and an expiry. Your Safe Edit or Full Control setting does not replace these generation controls. ### How long can I download a generated image? Generated results remain available online for seven days by default. Save the results to your local Image Studio library to keep them on your computer. Temporary download links can be refreshed while the result is still available. ### Can I use my artwork and animations in Godot? Yes. Export PNG artwork, sprite sheets, animated GIFs, or ZIPs of PNG frames. You can also export an animation as Godot SpriteFrames. Tile Designer lets you create tiles and arrange a tile map. ## Compatibility Which AI clients and Godot versions it works with. ### Which AI clients does it work with? The app offers setup for clients including Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, Gemini CLI, Cline, and VS Code. Other MCP clients can use a manual configuration if they support the server's connection type. Some features, such as confirmation prompts, depend on the client. ### Which Godot versions are supported? Godot 4.x. The addon runs inside the editor as a plugin. Core authoring, scene editing, physics, UI, and play-testing tools work across 4.x. A few tools use newer engine features and are used only when your version has them: inverse-kinematics chains need Godot 4.4+, and live runtime error capture needs 4.5+. On older 4.x versions those specific tools report that they're unavailable instead of failing. We recommend the latest stable 4.x for the full tool set. ### Why does Windows show a SmartScreen warning? A signed installer can still trigger SmartScreen while Windows builds its reputation. Download from the official Download page, check the publisher and checksum, and follow the troubleshooting guide if Windows blocks installation. ### Why does macOS block the app? Gatekeeper may block a build that is not yet signed and notarized. The Download page lists the current signing status and available installers. Use the official download and follow the macOS steps in the troubleshooting guide. ## Templates Reusable systems your assistant can build on. ### Do I need to ask for a template by name? No. Your AI assistant can search the library for a system that fits its current task, then install and adapt it. You can also ask for a template by name. Templates are included in Pro. ### Will a template replace my existing files? Existing files are protected by default. The assistant can preview the files a template will add, and overwrites follow your permission mode. Each template lists its Godot compatibility and whether it includes an editor addon. ## License & devices Lite and Pro, one-time purchase, devices, and refunds. ### Is there a free version? Yes. Godot MCP Studio Lite is free, with no account or license required. It ships a focused set of tools with the same two permission modes and the same local-first design, so you can connect your AI client to the real Godot editor and try the workflow. The full edition unlocks the complete tool catalog. Lite installs as a separate app and addon, so it won't conflict with the full edition. ### What does Pro add over Lite? Lite has 79 of the 350 tools, for scenes, scripts, and signals. Pro has all of them, including playtesting in the running game and the creative tools, plus 17 skills, templates, and Image Studio. Editions & pricing in the docs compares them. ### How much does Pro cost? Pro is a one-time payment for a lifetime v1.x license, not a subscription. The current price, and any running discount, is shown in the pricing section of our homepage and at checkout. The support chat on the website can also tell you the current price. ### How many devices can I use it on? Up to 3 devices you personally own or control. Deactivate a device before moving its seat to another machine. A deactivated seat may have a short cooldown before it becomes available again; the app shows when you can use it. ### What does 'lifetime' mean? A one-time purchase covers all v1.x updates (features, patches, and hotfixes) for personal and commercial projects. It does not include unlimited future major versions; if a v2 ships as a separate purchase, v1.x owners get discounted upgrade pricing. ### Do you offer refunds?
