# Install Godot MCP Studio

> Install the free Lite or full desktop app and the Godot editor addon.

Source: https://www.godotmcpstudio.com/docs/installation

## Requirements

- **Godot 4.x** (standard or .NET build).
- **Windows 10 or 11**, or **macOS**. The Windows installer is code signed. The
  macOS app is verified; Developer ID signing and notarization are in progress.
- An MCP-capable AI client (Claude Code, Cursor, Cline, and similar).

## Install the desktop app

Grab an installer from the [download page](https://www.godotmcpstudio.com/download):

- **Lite edition** is free: no account, no license, no sign-up. Download it and
  run the installer.
- The **full edition** is tied to your account: sign in with an active license
  to download it.

Windows installers are code-signed. The certificate is new, so Windows
SmartScreen may still show a prompt a few times until it earns reputation.
macOS may show a Gatekeeper warning while Developer ID signing and
notarization are in progress. Download only from this site, and see the
[troubleshooting guide](https://www.godotmcpstudio.com/docs/troubleshooting#installer-security-warnings) for
what each warning means.

The app updates itself. See [Updates](https://www.godotmcpstudio.com/docs/updating).

## Activate your license (full edition only)

Lite needs no activation. For the full edition, open the app, create a device
code from your [dashboard](https://www.godotmcpstudio.com/dashboard), and paste it into the app. The code
expires after 15 minutes and is consumed when activation succeeds. The app then
binds the license to this device and works offline afterwards, with a grace
window if you lose connection. Details in
[Licensing & activation](https://www.godotmcpstudio.com/docs/licensing).

## Install the editor addon

With a project selected, click **Install addon**. Each edition installs its own
plugin, so they never collide:

```
addons/godot_mcp_studio/        (full edition)
addons/godot_mcp_studio_lite/   (Lite)
```

Then enable it in Godot: **Project → Project Settings → Plugins → enable
"Godot MCP Studio"** (or **"Godot MCP Studio Lite"**). A small dock appears;
leave the editor open while your AI works so live tools stay connected.

## Update or remove the addon

Re-running **Install addon** after an app update refreshes the plugin files. To
remove it, disable the plugin in Godot and delete its folder from `addons/`.
