# Connect your AI client

> Generate MCP config for Claude, Cursor, Cline and more.

Source: https://www.godotmcpstudio.com/docs/connect-ai-client

Godot MCP Studio runs a local MCP server and generates the exact config each
client expects. You copy it once, and your AI can see and edit your Godot
project.

## Generate the config

In the app, open **AI client** and pick your client. The app fills in the
command and arguments. Pairing with Godot is automatic from the project itself,
so Cursor, Claude, Codex, VS Code, and every other client config stay free of
tokens, settings paths, and license credentials.

Generated configs expose the full tool set. Copy the snippet and restart the
AI client after you change the command or project path.

## Claude Code

Claude Code reads MCP servers from its config. Paste the generated `mcpServers`
entry, then restart Claude Code. A typical entry looks like:

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "godot-mcp-studio": {
      "command": "godot-mcp-server",
      "args": ["--project", "/path/to/your/project"]
    }
  }
}
```

The app writes the real path and connection details for you, so copy its version
rather than this example.

## Cursor

Cursor gets the full catalog like every other client. Current Cursor builds
load all of it without a tool limit. Ask the AI to run `list_tools` when you
wonder whether a tool exists.

If Cursor shows the server connected with 0 tools, update the app: releases
before Pro 1.3.4 shipped one tool schema that Cursor's validator rejects, which
made it drop the whole list.

Cursor keeps the server process running for as long as the editor is open.
After you update the app, the old server notices the new one on disk, tells
Cursor its tool list changed, and once no tool has run for a minute exits so
Cursor restarts it into the new version. If Cursor shows the server as stopped
instead of restarting it, toggle it off and on in Cursor's MCP settings.

## Cline

Cline reads the same `mcpServers` shape as Cursor. Use the client picker so the
app formats the snippet for it, paste it into Cline's MCP settings, and reload.

## Let your AI know the rules

The app can drop an `AGENTS.md` (and `CLAUDE.md`) into your project with a
compact tool overview, your permission mode, and safe-editing conventions. The
full tool catalog ships separately as the `godot-mcp-tools` skill (one reference
file per category under `.claude/skills/godot-mcp-tools/references/` and
`.agents/skills/godot-mcp-tools/references/`), and Cursor, Continue, and
Windsurf get it as an on-demand `godot-mcp-tool-catalog` rule. This noticeably
improves how well the model uses the tools. Enable it from the app, or write it
any time from the project screen.

## Verify it works

Open your Godot project with the addon enabled, then ask your AI to
"get the scene tree." If it returns your nodes, you're connected. If not, see
[Troubleshooting](https://www.godotmcpstudio.com/docs/troubleshooting).
